POPLARS

Poplars are an excellent choice for erosion-prone hill country. Their extensive, deep root network stabilises soil and reduces erosion and damage to watercourses. They can provide shade and shelter for livestock, drought fodder during dry summers and at the end of their useful life they can be harvested for timber. Additionally, poplars contribute to carbon sequestration and if criteria is met they can be registered in the Emissions Trading Scheme.
